A Guide | Planning an Unforgettable Honeymoon to the South Pacific

Planning a south pacific honeymoon is easy when you have the opportunity to speak to a professional who has actually traveled to the destinations, and has experienced all that the south pacific has to offer! My first tip to couples planning a honeymoon to either Fiji, or French Polynesia (the two top south pacific honeymoon choices) would be to find an expert agent who can share their personal advice and pictures of the places they have traveled to in the south pacific. If you do not find an agent who has been there, then you will be starting off on the wrong foot, and you could make a choice that is not best for your honeymoon!

MISTAKE #1- chosing your destination based on images alone!
Many couples make the mistake of chosing their destination based on images alone. They pick up a magazine, see a picture, point and say this is where we should go. This is a fatal honeymoon planning mistake! The beauty of a destination will have nothing to do with the couples overall experience. Beauty is wonderful and exciting, but is it enough for an amazing honeymoon experience? Of course you want a beautiful place, but you need more than scenic beauty in order to insure that you will have a great trip that is filled with magical moments that will last a lifetime.
IMPORTANT FACTORS TO CONSIDER!
The things that are important when considering the honeymoon destination/resort: the ambience at the resort/ hotel, the quality of the accommodations, the quality of dining, level of service, the activities available, the sightseeing opportunities, the weather, the ability to connect with the local population, the romantic activities available, resort amenities, spa, nightlife. These are a few things to start!
THE DIFFERENCES BETWEEN A FIJI AND FRENCH POLYNESIA (Tahiti) HONEYMOOON
Many couples are confused about the differences between Fiji and French Polynesia. These two destinations are worlds apart, yet so close geographically!. Fiji consists of 330 islands, English speaking, not very touristy, and offers private island resorts that cater to couples, include meals, and most activities. Guests can interact with locals, learn about Fijian customs, hear traditional music and have an authentic cultural experience. In Fiji you can do some amazing hiking, it is the soft coral capitol of the world making the diving and snorkeling some of the best in the South Pacific, and couples can stay in their own authentic Fijian cottage/ bungalow called a "bure" The US dollar buys almost 2 Fijian dollars making it a great bargain for Americans. Many of the villagers have hand crafts guests can purchase, and the shopping in Nadi is terrific! Private beach dinners, private island picnics are just two of the romantic things couples can do together!
French Polynesia was colonized by the French, is French speaking, has 3 main islands (Tahiti, Moorea and Bora Bora) and consists of big chain hotels such as Sofitel, Intercontinental, Hilton, and Le Meridien. Guests say in over the water bungalows which are beautiful and exotic. The cost for food and drink is additional and can be quite expensive. Couples need to budget $600 USD per day to cover food and drink. In terms of things to see and do, mostly it consists of water sports such as kayaking, swimming and snorkeling. There is no shopping to speak of, and no cultural either! The Islands are stunning, but can be cost prohibitive for many couples, and if the weather is not good, there are very few options outside of the watersports for couples to engage in.
Fiji is best for active couples who want a great value for the dollar, and who want a true authentic cultural experience. French Polynesia is best for couples who want to stay put, relax and not have a lot of things to see or do available to them. For a true Unforgettable Honeymoon, sit down and discuss the differences and what you feel works best for your preferences!
